New Yorkers for Mental Health Alternatives, Inc. is a not for profit organization created to educate the public accurately about the benefits and risks of psychedelics, create equitable therapeutic access to psychedelic-assisted therapy, and reduce or eliminate penalties for the non-commercial possession, use, cultivation, and transfer of psychedelic substances.
We're striving to make the vision of a rational psychedelic policy into a reality in New York, and we can't make it happen without your help!
Your donation will directly fund our efforts to achieve relief for the 40-60%[1] of people who don't respond to currently available treatments for mental health issues like depression or addiction, and may benefit from therapeutic access to alternative treatments.
The stresses from a long winter of isolation, compounded by fear of the pandemic and an economic crisis, threaten to worsen the mental health and substance abuse epidemics severely. Health care providers, researchers, individuals in need of relief, and the State as a whole need every available tool to protect our collective mental health and well-being.
More than fifty years after federal prohibition of psychedelics began without any legitimate basis, pharmaceutical companies are moving psychedelics through FDA-approved clinical trials with the goal of introducing them into the market as prescription drugs to those who can afford them. We don’t have time to wait for the federal government to approve substances whose safety and efficacy have been known for decades, if not centuries, or can be determined under a state-level regulatory system. Courts have ruled [2] that states have the Constitutional right to regulate medical practices and establish standards of medical care as they fit. If there really is a substance abuse crisis, and if there really is a mental health crisis, the people of New York State can take matters into our own hands to remove needless criminal penalties and create immediate equitable access to effective alternatives to existing forms of mental health care.
It won't be easy, but with your support we can succeed.
